Kildare's Local Patio Contractors

Kildare is home. Delaney Tarmac & Paving has been building patios across every part of the county since the late 1970s, and the business is still run by the same family from the same yard. Porcelain, natural stone, granite and block paving patios are our core rear-garden work, backed by the full hardscape craft, low retaining walls, integrated steps, seating walls, planter walls, granite features, and the proper sub-base and drainage that makes a patio last decades rather than a few wet winters.

Kildare patio work spans every kind of garden. The commuter belt towns, Naas, Newbridge, Maynooth, Celbridge, Leixlip, Kilcock, have mature 1990s and 2000s family homes with generous rear gardens ideal for full-size porcelain or natural stone entertaining spaces. The county towns, Kildare Town, Athy, Monasterevin, Kilcullen, have wider housing variety with period cottages, traditional stone walls and established landscaping that suit natural stone patios beautifully. Rural Kildare, Donadea, Robertstown, Ballymore Eustace, Eadestown, brings larger country gardens where terraced, multi-level builds with granite steps and retaining walls really come into their own.

Porcelain is the dominant patio material across Kildare right now, and for good reason. It handles Irish weather without staining, fading or needing sealing, the range of finishes covers everything from warm sandstone tones to cool contemporary greys, and it looks as good in 20 years as it does on the day it is laid. Natural stone, granite, limestone, sandstone, remains the premium choice for period properties and traditional cottage gardens, and we source quality flags with proper riven or honed finishes and install on a deep sub-base with sand-and-cement bedding and hand-pointing.

Ground conditions across Kildare are generally favourable for patio work. Most of the county sits on moderately draining boulder clay or gravelly till, with the Curragh on free-draining gravels and the bogland edges around the west and north producing heavier wet sites. Every Kildare patio starts with a proper site survey, soil assessment, fall analysis, drainage planning, so the sub-base depth and drainage detail match the actual plot rather than a templated spec. That is the difference between a patio that stays true for decades and one that settles, lifts or develops moss within a few years.

Being locally based in Kildare keeps our pricing honest. Low travel, low overhead, premium Irish suppliers (Kilsaran, Tobermore, Roadstone), short delivery runs. The net effect is that you get proper premium-grade workmanship at sensible Kildare pricing, without the Dublin-contractor markup. That is why our Kildare patio customers typically come back to us for driveways, repairs and for recommendations to friends and family.

Why Choose Us

Why Kildare Homeowners Choose Delaney

Full Rear Garden Hardscape

We do not just lay a flat square of paving. Most Kildare patio projects include level changes, steps, low retaining walls, seating walls, integrated planter walls, and sometimes full outdoor kitchen bases or pergola foundations. We handle the full build in-house rather than subcontracting, which keeps phasing tight and quality consistent from excavation through to the last joint.

Porcelain, Natural Stone & Traditional

Porcelain for contemporary, low-maintenance finishes. Granite, limestone and sandstone for period properties and cottage gardens. Block paving for budget-sensitive or pattern-heavy designs. Tarmac with granite sett borders for long approach drives that double as patio-adjacent hardscape. One contractor covers every Kildare patio style.

Based in Kildare, Serving All of Kildare

Our yard and crew are in Kildare. Whether you are in Naas, Newbridge, Maynooth, Athy, Clane or the rural edge of the county, we are local to you. Short travel, short lead times (most Kildare patio jobs start within 1-2 weeks of signing), and easy follow-up visits once the job is handed over.

5-Star Google Rated

Our reviews tell the story. Kildare customers consistently praise the design discussion up front, the craft of the build, the tidiness of the site during work, and the fact that our final invoice matches our original quote. We treat every Kildare patio as a reference project, because in a county this size, every job is visible to your neighbours.

Our Process

How We Build Your New Patio

01

Free Site Survey & Design Discussion

We visit your Kildare property to measure the garden, assess the existing levels, check drainage and inspect the ground. We discuss what you want the patio to do, entertaining space, low-maintenance lawn replacement, stepped connection to a garden room, and walk you through material options, sample boards and finish choices. You receive a detailed written quote within 48 hours, no obligation.

02

Materials Selection

Once the design direction is agreed, we finalise the material, porcelain tone, natural stone type, granite edging, jointing colour. We bring samples to site so you can see every finish against your house and planting before committing. For multi-element builds we lock the spec on retaining walls, steps, seating walls and any integrated features at this stage.

03

Excavation, Groundwork & Drainage

We strip the existing surface or lawn, excavate to the required depth (typically 200mm to 300mm depending on ground and finish), dispose of all spoil responsibly, and install the hardcore sub-base compacted in layers. Drainage is engineered in at this stage, proper falls, linear channel drains where the patio meets the house, soakaways or garden drainage connections as needed.

04

Laying, Pointing & Features

Porcelain and natural stone flags are laid on full sand-and-cement bedding with laser levels for true plane. Block paving is laid to pattern with edge restraints. Joints are hand-pointed with the correct mortar or jointing compound. Any retaining walls, steps and seating walls are built in parallel, so the finished patio ties together as one coherent build rather than a series of disconnected elements.

05

Finishing, Handover & Aftercare

We wash down the patio, clean all joints, remove all waste from site and walk you through the finished build. You receive care guidance specific to your chosen material, sealing schedules for natural stone, jointing care for porcelain, and any cure times you need to respect. We remain on the end of the phone for any follow-up questions or visits.
