Kildare's Patio Contractor of Choice
Choosing a patio contractor in Kildare is a decision that plays out over decades. The patio is not just the slabs you see on the surface: it is the sub-base underneath, the drainage engineered in at build stage, the bedding mortar under every flag, the jointing that has to stay weather-tight through 40 Irish winters, and the integrated hardscape (steps, retaining walls, seating walls, planter features) that ties the whole thing into a coherent finished garden. The wrong contractor gives you a patio that cracks and shifts in three years. The right one gives you a patio you still love in year twenty.
Delaney Tarmac & Paving has been Kildare's patio contractor of choice for over 45 years. Three generations of the Delaney family building patios in Naas, Newbridge, Maynooth, Celbridge, Kildare Town, Athy, Clane and across the county. Same yard, same family ownership, same standards. We work in porcelain (the dominant modern patio material, factory-calibrated with precision edges), natural stone (granite, limestone, sandstone in riven or honed finishes), and block paving patios where the design calls for more colour and pattern variation.
Our Kildare patio work spans the full range. Rear garden extensions tied to kitchen renovations on 1990s and 2000s family homes, where the porcelain level has to tie cleanly to the indoor floor at the sliding glass threshold. Mature period property hardscape in Kildare Town and Athy, where natural stone sits naturally alongside original brickwork and traditional garden walls. Multi-level terraced builds on sloping sites in Clane, Ballymore Eustace and the foothills south of Naas, where retaining walls, granite steps and integrated seating create distinct zones that work with the terrain. Full country property renovations on rural sites, where the patio is just one element of a wider landscape hardscape project.
Proper patio work requires proper groundwork. Every Delaney patio in Kildare starts with a minimum 200mm compacted hardcore sub-base (deeper on soft or wet ground), full sand-and-cement bedding laid true to grade (never dot-and-dab spots that fail within a few years), laser-levelled to correct fall away from the house, linear channel drainage where the patio meets the house, and hand-pointed joints in the correct colour-matched compound. That spec is what separates a 40-year patio from one that fails in 5. We do not build any other way.
Standard credentials apply: full public liability insurance, current tax compliance certificate, C2 registered, no subcontracted labour. Same crew surveys, builds and hands over the project. 5-star Google rating from Kildare and wider Leinster customers. Premium supplier relationships with Kilsaran, Tobermore and main Italian and Spanish porcelain ranges give us batch-matched materials in consistent colour. Fixed-price quotes that hold, with final invoices that match the quote. No subcontracted landscape design team adding margin on our work: you deal directly with the Delaney family from first site visit to final handover.
Rated 5 stars by homeowners across Dublin and Leinster.
Every job backed by our 5-year workmanship guarantee.

Why Kildare Homeowners Trust Delaney for Patios
Porcelain, Natural Stone & Full Hardscape
Every patio material and every hardscape element. Porcelain for low-maintenance modern finishes. Granite, limestone, sandstone for period and traditional gardens. Block paving where colour and pattern flexibility matter. Plus retaining walls, steps, seating walls, planter walls and granite features all built in-house alongside the main patio. One contractor, coherent finished build.
Full Bedding Mortar, Never Dot-and-Dab
The single biggest spec difference between a patio that lasts decades and one that fails in 3-5 years is the bedding under the flags. We lay every porcelain and natural stone flag on full sand-and-cement bedding (100% coverage), laser-levelled for true plane. Dot-and-dab bedding (five spots per flag) is industry-standard shorthand for a failing patio and we never use it. This is where the real work gets done, under the surface you see.
Design Consultation, Real Samples
Patio projects start with a design discussion, not just a measurement. We bring real physical samples from every material range to the site survey so you see the colour, texture and finish in daylight against your house rather than committing off a brochure. For multi-element builds we walk you through the hardscape design options (level changes, retaining walls, integrated seating, feature elements) and finalise the spec before any material is ordered.
45+ Years Kildare Reputation
Three generations, same family, same yard, since the late 1970s. 500+ completed Kildare projects. 5-star Google rating. References you can walk to in any Kildare town. Longevity in this trade is its own credential: every patio we have built in the county is still there to inspect, and many of our Kildare patio customers come back for driveway work, repairs or for recommendations to neighbours and friends.
How We Build Your Patio
Free Site Survey & Design
We visit your Kildare property, measure the garden, check existing levels, assess drainage and discuss what you want the patio to deliver. Physical material samples brought to site so you can see each range in daylight against your house. Detailed written quote within 48 hours, no obligation.
Spec Lock & Material Order
Once the design is agreed we lock the full spec: patio material, pattern/layout, joint colour, edging detail, any integrated hardscape elements (steps, walls, features). Material ordered batch-matched for colour consistency and delivered in a quantity sufficient for the whole build in one go.
Excavation, Sub-Base & Drainage
Strip existing surface or lawn, excavate to 200mm minimum (deeper on soft or wet ground), dispose of all spoil, and lay compacted crushed stone hardcore in layers using a vibrating roller. Linear channel drainage installed where the patio will meet the house at this stage.
Full Bedding & Flag Laying
Full sand-and-cement bedding mortar laid over the sub-base, laser-levelled to true plane with correct falls. Flags individually bedded (porcelain or natural stone), pattern-laid precisely, with any integrated walls, steps and features built in parallel so the finished project is coherent.
Jointing, Finishing & Handover
Joints hand-pointed with the appropriate mortar or compound in a matched colour. Full wash-down once cured. All waste removed from site. Walk-through at handover with care guidance for your specific material type. Standard workmanship guarantee applies.
