Professional Paving Contractors Serving Dublin
Choosing the right paving contractor in Dublin can feel overwhelming. There are plenty of operators offering cheap quotes, but the difference between a driveway that looks stunning for decades and one that sinks within two winters comes down to who does the work. At Delaney Tarmac & Paving, we have been laying driveways, patios, and pathways across Dublin since the early 1980s. Our reputation has been built one project at a time, through consistent quality and honest service that keeps homeowners recommending us to their neighbours.
We offer a complete range of paving services for Dublin homes. Block paving remains our most requested option for driveways, with herringbone and stretcher bond patterns in premium Tobermore and Kilsaran blocks. Tarmac is ideal for larger driveways where a clean, practical finish is the priority. For rear gardens and patio areas, porcelain paving and natural stone provide a contemporary or traditional look depending on your taste. We also install resin bound surfaces, tar and chip driveways, and decorative gravel finishes. Whatever the material, the installation method stays the same: thorough preparation, quality products, and careful finishing.
Every paving project in Dublin starts with the ground beneath. Our clay-heavy soils, frequent rainfall, and freeze-thaw cycles between November and March mean that shortcuts in ground preparation always show up eventually. We excavate to a minimum of 250mm, lay compacted Type 1 sub-base in layers, install proper drainage, and build in the correct falls before a single paving block or slab is placed. This is the work you do not see, but it is the reason our driveways and patios stay level and solid year after year.
Dublin presents its own set of considerations for paving contractors. Planning regulations in certain areas restrict the proportion of front garden that can be hard-surfaced without a drainage plan. Many older properties have mature tree roots close to driveway boundaries. Estate-specific guidelines in some newer developments require approved materials and colours. We understand all of these factors and guide our Dublin clients through the process from the very first site visit, so there are no surprises once the work begins.

Why Choose Delaney as Your Paving Contractor
Premium Paving Materials
We source our blocks, slabs, and paving products exclusively from trusted Irish and European manufacturers. Tobermore and Kilsaran supply our block paving, while our porcelain and natural stone comes from certified suppliers with full technical specifications. Every material we use is rated for Irish weather conditions, colour-fast against UV exposure, and backed by manufacturer guarantees. We never use cheap imports that fade, flake, or crack after a couple of seasons.
Complete Paving Services
Unlike contractors who specialise in just one surface type, we install the full range of paving options. Block paving, tarmac, porcelain, natural stone, resin bound, tar and chip, and decorative gravel. This means we can recommend the best material for your specific project based on budget, aesthetics, and practical requirements, rather than pushing whatever product we happen to stock. Many Dublin homeowners combine two or more surfaces, such as a tarmac driveway with block paving borders, or a porcelain patio with natural stone stepping stones.
Proper Ground Preparation
Ground preparation is where most paving failures originate, and it is the area where less experienced contractors cut corners to save time. We excavate to the correct depth for every project, compact sub-base in layers using calibrated equipment, install drainage appropriate to the site conditions, and verify levels with laser instruments before laying begins. Dublin soils vary enormously from free-draining sand and gravel in coastal areas to heavy boulder clay across the south and west suburbs. We adjust our methods to suit each site.
Workmanship Guarantee
Every paving project we complete in Dublin comes with a written workmanship guarantee. If any aspect of our installation fails due to workmanship, we return and rectify it at no cost to you. This covers block settlement, joint failure, drainage issues, and surface defects attributable to how the work was carried out. Our guarantee reflects the confidence we have in our team and our methods. It is backed by over 45 years of trading in Dublin and a 5-star Google rating that we work hard to maintain.
Our Paving Installation Process
Consultation & Design
We visit your Dublin property to measure the area, assess ground conditions, check existing drainage, and discuss your preferences. We bring physical samples of blocks, slabs, and stone so you can compare colours and textures in your own daylight. We will recommend the best paving material for your project based on the intended use, your home's style, and your budget. You receive a detailed, fixed-price quotation with no hidden extras.
Site Preparation
Our crew arrives with all necessary plant and equipment. We remove the existing surface, whether that is old tarmac, broken concrete, loose gravel, or overgrown lawn. The area is excavated to the required depth, typically 250mm to 300mm for driveways and 200mm for patios. All waste material is removed from site and disposed of responsibly. Boundary edges, kerbing, and retaining features are established at this stage.
Sub-Base Construction
We lay compacted Type 1 crushed stone sub-base in layers, each one compacted with a vibrating plate or roller to achieve the density needed for long-term stability. The sub-base is graded to the correct falls, directing surface water towards drains, road gullies, or soakaways. In areas with poor natural drainage, such as clay-heavy sites across Tallaght, Lucan, and Clondalkin, we incorporate a geotextile membrane and additional drainage runs to prevent water pooling beneath the surface.
Paving Installation
With the sub-base prepared and checked for level, we lay the paving material. For block paving, this means screeding a sharp sand bed and hand-laying blocks in your chosen pattern, cutting precisely around manholes, edges, and curves with a diamond blade. For tarmac, our team machine-lays and rolls the surface to a smooth, even finish. Porcelain and natural stone slabs are laid on a full bed of exterior-grade adhesive or a compacted priming slurry, with consistent joint spacing throughout.
Finishing & Sealing
Block paving is compacted with a plate vibrator and jointed with kiln-dried sand swept into every gap, locking the surface into a rigid, interlocking structure. Tarmac surfaces are rolled to their final compaction and edges are sealed against kerbing. Natural stone and porcelain joints are grouted with flexible, frost-proof compound. We clean the entire surface, tidy the site, remove all waste, and walk you through the finished project. Sealing is available as an optional upgrade for block paving and natural stone to enhance colour and protect against staining.
