Professional Tarmac Driveways Across Dublin
Tarmac remains the most popular driveway surface in Dublin for good reason. It handles heavy rainfall without pooling, shrugs off frost damage that cracks lesser materials, and gives your front garden a clean, finished look that lasts for twenty years or more with minimal upkeep. From the red-brick estates of Lucan to the mature gardens of Rathfarnham, tarmacadam suits every style of Dublin home, whether you are resurfacing an ageing concrete drive or starting fresh on a new build.
At Delaney Tarmac & Paving, we have been installing tarmac driveways since the late 1970s. We are a family-run crew based across Kildare and Dublin, and Dublin has always been our busiest county. Our lads know the ground conditions across the city intimately, the heavy boulder clay soils common in south Dublin suburbs like Templeogue and Knocklyon that require deeper sub-base preparation, the high water tables around the Tolka and Dodder floodplains, and the tight access lanes in older neighbourhoods like Drumcondra and Ranelagh where machinery selection matters.
Every tarmac driveway we lay in Dublin starts with a proper site survey. We check falls, drainage runs, and soil type before quoting. Our standard specification uses a minimum 150mm compacted hardcore sub-base, more if the ground is soft, followed by a 60mm binder course and a 25mm wearing course of hot-rolled asphalt. That three-layer build is what separates a driveway that lasts from one that cracks within five winters. We never cut corners on depth, and we never lay tarmac on wet ground.
Because we run our own crews and plant, there is no middleman markup on your quote. You deal directly with the Delaney family from first phone call to final roll. We are fully insured, tax compliant, and carry public liability cover for every job. Our 5-star Google rating speaks for itself, Dublin homeowners keep coming back to us because we do honest work at fair prices, and we leave the site spotless when we are done.

Why Dublin Homeowners Choose Delaney
45 Years of Expertise
Three generations of the Delaney family have been laying tarmac across Dublin and Leinster. That depth of experience means we have tackled every ground condition, gradient, and access challenge the city can throw at us, from narrow Victorian terraces in Dun Laoghaire to sweeping rural entrances on the Dublin-Kildare border.
Dublin-Wide Coverage
We serve every Dublin postcode from Swords in the north to Shankill in the south, Lucan in the west to Blackrock on the coast. Our crews travel from our Kildare base daily, and because Dublin is our core territory, scheduling is quick, most jobs start within two to three weeks of your quote.
Premium Irish-Sourced Materials
We use only quality-assured tarmacadam from established Irish quarries. Our hot-rolled asphalt is mixed to specification on the day of laying, delivered at the correct temperature, and compacted with proper roller equipment, never hand-tamped. The result is a dense, even surface that resists cracking and water ingress for years.
5-Star Google Rating
With over sixteen verified 5-star reviews on Google, our reputation in Dublin speaks for itself. We do not chase reviews, they come naturally because we finish every job to a standard we would be happy with on our own homes. How We Install Your Tarmac Driveway
Site Survey & Quotation
We visit your Dublin property to assess the existing surface, measure the area, check drainage falls, and inspect ground conditions. If your soil is the heavy boulder clay typical of areas like Tallaght and Clondalkin, we factor in additional sub-base depth. You receive a detailed written quote within 48 hours, no hidden extras, no pressure.
Excavation & Ground Preparation
Our mini-digger strips the old surface and excavates to the required depth, typically 250mm to 300mm depending on soil conditions. All spoil is removed from site and disposed of responsibly. We then compact the exposed subgrade and install geotextile membrane where needed to prevent clay migration into the stone layers above.
Sub-Base Installation
We lay a minimum of 150mm of crushed 804 stone sub-base, compacted in layers with a vibrating roller to achieve maximum density. This is the foundation of your driveway and the single most important factor in its longevity. In areas with poor drainage or soft ground, common near the Liffey corridor and in north Dublin, we increase this to 200mm or more and install land drains.
Binder Course
A 60mm layer of coarse binder-course tarmacadam is laid and rolled while hot. This intermediate layer bridges any minor irregularities in the sub-base and provides the structural strength to support vehicle weight without deforming. We set the correct camber and falls at this stage to ensure rainwater runs towards your drainage outlets rather than pooling against the house.
Surface Course & Finishing
The final 25mm wearing course of fine hot-rolled asphalt is machine-laid and rolled to a smooth, even finish. We hand-dress all edges, around manholes, and against kerbs for a crisp, professional look. Once cooled, your new tarmac driveway is ready for foot traffic immediately and vehicle traffic within 24 to 48 hours depending on weather conditions.
