WHAT IS
TARMACADAM?
Tarmacadam is a tried and tested driveway surface made from crushed stone bound with bitumen. It is the most popular choice for driveways in Ireland because of its durability, clean finish, and excellent value for money.
We use SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) grade tarmac as standard. This is a premium mix with higher stone content that resists cracking and lasts significantly longer than standard tarmac. Every driveway is machine laid on a properly prepared sub-base for a smooth, even finish.

THE BENEFITS OF
TARMACADAM.
Extreme Durability
SMA tarmac is built to handle heavy vehicles, frost, and daily wear. With a proper sub-base it will last 15 to 20 years.
Cost-Effective
Tarmac offers the best value per square metre of any driveway surface. A premium result without breaking the budget.
Quick Installation
Most tarmac driveways are completed in 2 to 3 days. Minimal disruption and you can drive on it within 24 hours.
Low Maintenance
No re-sealing, no re-sanding. Just an occasional sweep or power wash to keep it looking its best.
HOW WE INSTALL
TARMAC DRIVEWAYS.
Site Survey & Prep
We visit your property, assess the ground conditions, and plan the excavation. Existing surfaces are removed and the area is dug out to the correct depth.
Sub-Base Construction
A deep layer of crushed stone is laid and compacted to create a solid foundation. Proper drainage falls are built in to prevent water pooling.
Tarmac Laying
SMA grade tarmac is machine laid in two coats for maximum strength and a smooth, even surface. Edges are finished cleanly against kerbs or borders.
Rolling & Finishing
Heavy rollers compact the tarmac to its final level. We do a full walkthrough with you to make sure everything meets your expectations.

"Paul and his team did a fantastic job on our driveway. The finish is perfect and the whole process was hassle free from start to finish. Highly recommend."

TARMAC DRIVEWAY FAQ.
How long does a tarmac driveway last?+
A professionally installed tarmacadam driveway will last 15 to 20 years with minimal maintenance. The key to longevity is proper sub-base preparation, correct drainage falls, and quality machine-laid tarmac. We guarantee all our work and use only commercial-grade SMA tarmac.
How much does a tarmac driveway cost in Ireland?+
The cost of a tarmac driveway depends on the size of the area, the depth of excavation required, and the condition of the existing ground. Tarmac is generally the most cost-effective driveway surface available. We provide free, no-obligation quotes after a site visit so you get an accurate price for your property.
What is the difference between SMA and standard tarmac?+
SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) is a premium tarmacadam with a higher stone content and modified binder. It is more durable, more resistant to cracking, and provides a smoother finish than standard tarmac. We use SMA as standard on all our driveway installations for a longer-lasting result.
How do I maintain a tarmac driveway?+
Tarmac driveways require very little maintenance. Keep the surface clear of debris, avoid parking heavy vehicles on hot days, and address any minor cracks promptly. An occasional power wash will keep it looking fresh. There is no need for re-sealing in the first few years.
Can tarmac be laid in wet weather?+
Tarmac should not be laid in heavy rain as moisture can affect the bond between the tarmac and the sub-base. Light drizzle is usually fine, but we always monitor weather conditions and will reschedule if needed to ensure the best possible finish. We will keep you informed throughout.
