About Block Paving

WHAT IS BLOCK
PAVING?

Block paving uses individual concrete or clay blocks laid in interlocking patterns to create a strong, attractive driveway surface. Each block is precision-cut and placed by hand, giving you complete control over the design, colour, and layout of your driveway.

It is one of the most popular driveway choices in Ireland for good reason. Block paving offers incredible durability, a wide range of styles, and can be repaired easily if a single block is ever damaged. Available in dozens of colours and patterns to suit any property.

Premium Materials

We use Tobermore and Kilsaran blocks, offering dozens of colours from charcoal and slate to sandstone and rustic blends.

Easy Repairs

If a block is ever damaged or stained, it can be lifted and replaced individually. No need to redo the entire surface.

Our Process

HOW WE INSTALL
BLOCK PAVING.

01

Design & Colour Selection

We visit your property, discuss patterns and colours, and bring block samples so you can see exactly how they look against your home.

02

Excavation & Sub-Base

We excavate to the correct depth and lay a compacted stone sub-base with proper falls for drainage. This is the foundation of a lasting driveway.

03

Block Laying & Cutting

Each block is laid by hand in your chosen pattern. Border blocks and curves are precision-cut on site for a clean, professional finish.

04

Compaction & Jointing

The completed surface is compacted with a plate vibrator and kiln-dried sand is swept into the joints to lock everything in place.

"We had our front driveway done in block paving by Paul and the lads. Beautiful herringbone pattern, perfect colour match with the house. Brilliant job from start to finish."

Common Questions

BLOCK PAVING FAQ.

What is the best pattern for a block paving driveway?+

Herringbone is the most popular and strongest pattern for driveways. The interlocking 45 or 90 degree layout prevents blocks from shifting under vehicle weight. Basket weave and stretcher bond are also great options for paths and patios where traffic is lighter.

How do you maintain a block paving driveway?+

Block paving is very low maintenance. A power wash once or twice a year keeps it looking fresh. Re-sanding the joints every few years helps prevent weed growth. If any block gets damaged or stained, it can be lifted and replaced individually without disturbing the rest of the surface.

Is block paving more expensive than tarmac?+

Block paving typically costs more than tarmac due to the materials and labour involved in laying individual blocks. However, it adds significant kerb appeal and property value. It also lasts longer with minimal upkeep, making it a worthwhile investment for many homeowners.

What colour options are available for block paving?+

We work with leading Irish manufacturers like Tobermore and Kilsaran, offering a wide range of colours from charcoal and slate grey to sandstone, buff, and rustic blends. We bring samples to your free site visit so you can see the colours against your property.

How long does a block paving driveway last?+

A properly installed block paving driveway will last 25 years or more. The concrete blocks themselves are incredibly durable and resist cracking, fading, and frost damage. The key to longevity is a well-prepared sub-base and correct compaction during installation.
