Wicklow's Trusted Driveway Contractors
Wicklow has the most varied driveway-building conditions of any county in Leinster. Coastal salt-air corridor running from Bray through Greystones, Kilcoole and Wicklow Town to Arklow. Mountain-edge sites toward Enniskerry, Roundwood and the Glencree valley with shallow bedrock and steep slopes. Peat-edge ground in west Wicklow around Blessington and the Bog of Allen fringes. River valleys in south Wicklow around Rathdrum, Avoca and Aughrim. Each of these calls for a different sub-base spec, drainage detail and material choice. We have laid driveways across all of them.
Driveway work in Wicklow falls into clear patterns. The Bray-Greystones-Kilcoole commuter corridor on the east coast carries a mix of period homes near the village cores, 1970s-1980s family estates, and newer executive housing in Charlesland, Coolagad and Robswall-equivalent estates. Mountain-edge Wicklow (Enniskerry, Roundwood, Newtownmountkennedy) brings sloping sites, larger rural plots and properties where character matters more than minimum spec. Wicklow Town, Arklow and the south Wicklow corridor have a wider mix from town terraces through to substantial rural country properties.
Coastal Wicklow ground conditions need careful spec. Salt-air exposure on the Bray-Greystones-Kilcoole-Wicklow Town-Arklow corridor deteriorates block paving over time and causes efflorescence. Resin bound is salt-air resistant and increasingly the right call. Inland on the mountain-edge, shallow bedrock affects excavation depth, and we adjust the build to work with the rock rather than against it. West Wicklow peat-edge sites near Blessington need bogland spec, 250-300mm sub-base with geotextile separation, to prevent settlement.
Being based in Kildare means we are 40-90 minutes from anywhere in Wicklow depending on the corner. Most jobs start within two to three weeks of the signed quote, with rural multi-day visits scheduled as extended runs. We have crews on Wicklow projects routinely and the standards needed across the Garden of Ireland are well within our routine work.

Why Wicklow Homeowners Choose Delaney
Every Driveway Type, Done Right
Tarmac, block paving, resin bound, gravel, tar and chip. We install all five. We are not a single-product company pushing the only surface we know, we are a full-range driveway contractor that walks you through the real trade-offs, shows samples, and recommends what genuinely fits your Wicklow property, your budget and your ground.
Coastal Salt-Air Specialists
Coastal Wicklow has its own challenges. Block paving suffers efflorescence in salt air, gravel migrates in coastal wind, and tarmac binders deteriorate over decades of marine exposure. We specify resin bound, salt-air-tolerant tarmac mixes and properly sealed natural stone for coastal-adjacent properties on the Bray-Greystones-Wicklow-Arklow corridor.
Mountain-Edge & Sloping Site Capability
Enniskerry, Roundwood, Glencree and the foothill-edge villages have shallow bedrock, steep gradients and properly graded falls that matter more than on flat plots. We adjust the sub-base build and edge restraint accordingly and have laid driveways on Wicklow Mountain sites that other contractors had walked away from.
45+ Years in Leinster
Three generations of the Delaney family have been laying driveways across Leinster since the late 1970s. Wicklow has been part of our service area throughout that time. Nothing about a Wicklow driveway, coastal, mountain-edge, peat-edge or rural, surprises us.
How We Build Your New Wicklow Driveway
Free Site Survey
We visit your Wicklow property to measure the area, assess the existing surface, check drainage falls and inspect ground conditions. Coastal, mountain-edge and peat-edge sites get specific spec adjustments documented at this stage. You receive a detailed written quote within 48 hours with no obligation.
Design & Materials Consultation
We walk you through surface options that suit your property and budget. For coastal Wicklow we discuss resin bound and salt-air-tolerant specifications. For mountain-edge sites we discuss bedrock-aware excavation and edge detail. We bring sample boards and discuss colour, pattern and edging detail.
Excavation & Sub-Base
Our crews strip the old surface and excavate to the required depth, typically 200-300mm depending on soil type. Bogland and peat-edge sites get deeper sub-base with geotextile separation. We compact crushed stone hardcore in layers using a vibrating roller. Sub-base is the single biggest factor in how long a driveway lasts.
Surface Installation
Whether we are machine-laying hot tarmac, hand-laying block paving, trowelling resin bound aggregate, spreading and edging gravel, or applying tar and chip, every material has its own technique and timing window. Our crews are trained in all five surface types. Correct falls for drainage are set at this stage.
Handover & Aftercare
We walk you through the finished driveway, explain any curing or settling time specific to your chosen material, and provide care guidance so the surface stays looking its best for years. All waste is cleared from site and your property is left spotless.
Driveway Costs in Wicklow
Driveway prices in Wicklow vary depending on the material you choose, the area to be surfaced, ground conditions and site access. Coastal, mountain-edge and peat-edge sites can need additional sub-base spec which is reflected in the quote. Below are typical price ranges for a standard 50 square metre residential driveway in Wicklow.
Tarmac Driveway (50m²)
Hard-wearing, fast to install, low maintenance. The most common choice.
Block Paving Driveway (50m²)
Decorative finish with colour and pattern choices. Best inland away from coastal salt-air.
Resin Bound Driveway (50m²)
Salt-air resistant. Increasingly the right call on coastal Wicklow properties.
Gravel Driveway (50m²)
Cost-effective on rural and country properties across south and west Wicklow.
Indicative ranges only. Final price quoted on-site after a free survey. Ranges reflect typical residential installations and may vary with site access, drainage requirements, ground conditions and decorative features.

"Paul and his team recently completed an amazing job on our driveway. Paul suggested granite between the house and tar which he installed and also a granite door step, it really made the whole job next level."
