Tarmac Driveway with a Pale Paved Apron

A new bungalow taken from loose stone to a tarmac driveway, with a pale paved apron and a step running the full width of the house.

Surface: machine-laid tarmac
Detail: pale paved apron and step along the front
Before: loose stone across the whole frontage

Before: loose stone from the boundary wall to the door.

The finish

The tarmac fills the space from the wall to the apron in one even surface. The apron sits a step above it, so the paving stays clean and there is a dry, level path to the door. Delaney lays tarmac by machine: a binder course, then an SMA wearing course, with the sub-base depth set by the ground.

"The base is everything. If the sub-base is wrong, the whole thing fails inside three years."
