Commercial tarmac

Commercial tarmac contractors
in Wicklow.

Estate roads, church and club car parks, and rural yards and lanes across the county, laid to cope with slopes and heavy rain. Paul Delaney, 45 years in the trade, visits the site before he prices it.

Slopes
and rain.

Wicklow sites are often on a slope and see more rain than the flatter counties. Water running down a car park or lane will find any weak joint, so the drainage and kerbs are worked out before the surface is priced.

Slopes

Surfacing on a slope

On a slope the surface itself carries water, and it carries it fast. The layout is planned so water is caught before it gathers.

  • Channel drains across the slope at entrances and low points.
  • Kerbs to hold the edge and guide water to gullies.
  • Binder and wearing courses laid by machine and rolled across the fall.

Rural

Lanes and yards

Long access lanes and yards in rural Wicklow take farm machinery and deliveries, often on ground that holds water.

  • Base built for the heaviest vehicle that uses it.
  • Verges and edges finished so the lane does not crumble.
  • Gateways rebuilt where they have sunk.

Residential jobs, laid by the same crew with the same machine-laid method, sub-base and kerbing.

"The base is everything. If the sub-base is wrong, the whole thing fails inside three years."

Common Questions

Common questions.

Which parts of the county do you cover?+

The whole county, from the base in Newbridge.

Can a steep entrance be surfaced in tarmac?+

Yes. On steep ground the drainage at the top and bottom matters most, and the surface is rolled so it compacts evenly on the slope.

Do you also do driveways?+

Yes. Driveway repair and new driveways are part of the residential service.
