Templeogue is one of south Dublin's most settled family suburbs, defined by solid 1960s and 1970s semi-detached homes on well-planned estates with generous back gardens. Streets like Templeville Road, Templeogue Road, Cypress Downs and the roads through Cheeverstown typically have rear gardens between 8 and 15 metres deep, ideal dimensions for a proper rear garden patio that serves as an extension of the indoor living space.

Porcelain is our dominant recommendation on Templeogue patios. The combination of heavy family use, Irish weather and the mid-century architecture of most local homes all point to porcelain as the best long-term answer. It does not stain, does not fade, does not need sealing and holds up through decades without visible wear. We specify porcelain in warm sandstone tones for traditional gardens and cool contemporary greys for modernised extensions.

Many Templeogue patio projects are commissioned as part of rear extension works. As the family renovates the kitchen/dining area and opens out onto the garden, the patio becomes the visual continuation of the indoor floor. We coordinate carefully with builders, architects and kitchen fitters on these projects to make sure the patio level ties cleanly into the threshold, the joints are aligned with the extension glazing, and the drainage is integrated with the new roof and gutter runs.

Ground conditions across Templeogue are mostly heavy boulder clay, stable foundation but slow drainage. That combination makes proper falls and drainage planning essential on every patio we build. Linear channel drains where the patio meets the house, proper crossfall across the paved area, and a soakaway or connection to existing garden drainage are all standard on Templeogue patios. Poorly drained patios crack, shift and develop moss within a few years, which is what we replace most often here.

Where rear gardens slope gently, as they do on some of the streets running back from Templeogue Road toward the Dodder, we include graded terracing, low retaining walls and stone steps in the build. On flat family gardens the design is simpler: a generous level patio area with proper edging, integrated seating if space allows, and planted borders softening the transition to lawn.
