Porcelain Paving Specialists Serving Howth

Howth is one of the most distinctive residential corridors in north Dublin, with substantial hill houses overlooking the sea along Thormanby Road, Balkill Road and Carrickbrack Road, period properties around Howth Harbour, and larger detached plots tucked into the streets running up Howth Hill. Porcelain paving is laid as 20mm dense-vitrified slabs on a full sand-and-cement bed over a properly compacted sub-base. Joints are hand-pointed with a flexible jointing compound that stays weather-tight for decades. Dense vitrification means porcelain does not absorb water, does not stain, does not freeze-crack and does not need annual sealing.

For Howth we typically specify warm sandstone and travertine tones for period properties around the harbour, alongside contemporary greys and large-format slabs for the hill houses. Stone-effect porcelain that mimics limestone or granite closely is also routine, particularly where the property has original granite stonework to complement.

A critical Howth detail is the sloping hill site. Many properties on Thormanby Road, Carrickbrack Road and Balkill Road have multi-level rear gardens with retaining walls supporting upper terraces, granite step features cut into porcelain transitions, and integrated lighting at level changes. Salt-air exposure is also year-round, which porcelain handles much better than natural stone.
